Recently Retired Retirees!

Branch 1111 would like to extend our deepest thanks and gratitude to all retired letter carriers throughout the East Bay! We hope your retirement years fill you with joy and happiness, you have earned it! Branch 1111 holds a retirees night before the Branch meeting, the fourth Tuesday in August. There is also a retirees meeting the third Thursday of each month which is a way all retirees can stay active in the union during their retirement years. Call the branch office if you have any further questions.

Planning on retiring….

While the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) makes all decisions regarding retirement entitlement, current employees are required to apply for retirement through the USPS Human Resources Shared Services (HRSSC).

HRSSC can be reached by calling 877-477-3273, option 5.

When calling HRSSC, be prepared to provide your Employee ID and PIN.

Upon request, HRSSC will:

Mail an individualized annuity estimate based on a projected retirement date provided by the employee;

Schedule and provide telephonic individual pre-retirement counseling;

Mail a packet of information (usually called the ‘blue book’) of forms and guidance.

HRSSC retirement services can alternately be accessed by employees close to retirement eligibility on-line using the LiteBlue eRetire application. Employees must know their Employee ID and USPS Pin numbers to access eRetire. The LiteBlue eRetire application allows the following:

View and print individualized annuity estimates;

Request and obtain a retirement application packet in one of two ways:

  1. Download and print a retirement application packet;

  2. Order a retirement application packet and receive it in the mail

In addition to information available from the USPS HRSSC, retirement information is available from OPM; and retirement information and advice is available to NALC members from the NALC Retirement Department.

The NALC Retirement Department publishes a leaflet titled “Preparing for Retirement,” and Question & Answer booklets on retirement matters for CSRS and FERS. Click here for more information.

Retirees Meeting Minutes

11/14/19 meeting

9/17/19 meeting

Note from Letter Carrier Ken Moore

Retirement is something we all work for. I retired in 2011 in Concord after working for the Post Office for 37.5 years. I’ve worked as a shop steward in our branch and I understand a little more about what the Union does to protect the over-worked and under appreciated carriers. Don’t forget, even in retirement, our Union is fighting hard to make sure we do not get left behind. We all just received a COLA in our January checks; which without it, we’d fall victim to the rising cost of living just that much quicker.

Our committee is working on ways to bring out the importance of donating to the Letter Carrier Political Fund (it’s your future the Union is fighting to protect). Unfortunately, without any support, we all could be in BIG trouble. As i’m sure you’re well aware, the current administration is not pro postal service. So as a fellow retiree, you can pay a little now to protect our future as letter carriers. I entrust our Union, they have always been there fighting to us in the past, present, and future.

In closing, I would like to put out an invitation to ALL Retirees to come join us. Our regular meeting is on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 11am at 402 37th Street, Richmond, Ca.

Hope to see you there,

Ken Moore
